Sword and Zill Dancing

The Zill (Finger Cymbals):

Finger cymbals are also called “zill” in Turkey and “zagat” in Arabic. They are small metal disks, usually in two colors: gold tone (brass) and silver tone, worn on the thumb and middle finger and played while you are belly dancing. Generally belly dancers will wear four of them (a pair on each hand).
Zill come in different sizes and colours. The difference in size and metal will all give off different tones, larger zill 2.5 inches are often used by professional dancers as they are louder, so can over come the noise in a restaurant, or venue. Smaller zill 2 inches are better for beginners, or working in a more intimate setting.
Zill Mufflers are fabric coverings that are placed over the zill to muffle the sound while you are playing them. These make it possible for you to practice without disturbing others.

Swords:

Dancing with a sword as a prop can look spectacular; it is a weapon, so give the dancer a look of power and control, if used correctly. Audiences are usually intrigued by sword performances, a performer will usually start by holding the sword and dancing, showing the audience that it is real! This also helps to build suspense.
When balancing the sword on your head, take your time, even if you can do it very easily, this will give you audience the feel of will it or will it not stay on, adding an extra level to your performance.

When you are new to balancing a sword, you will notice when practicing that after about 5 min it will begin to hurt your head, for this reason do not practice for longer than 10 minutes at a time, making sure you rest for 5 minutes in between
